* * *

Emerging out of the steamy bathroom clad in only a white towel, Hiwatari Kai angrily sped down the hallway. His ears perked at the barely contained moronic guffaw coming from down the hall. There! he thought, arriving at the stop of the stairs just in time to see the red-jacketed fool give a yelp and scramble down and run past the stairs into the kitchen, clutching his digital camera to his chest.

Growling, Kai fled down the stairs as fast as he could. Halfway, he heard the roars of laughter echoing off the walls of the small house. Kai didn't think twice about what to do next: he ignored the rest of the steps and leaped over the banister instead, landing on the first floor without difficulty, and bolted through the kitchen door, one hand at the towel around his waist to cover up what was left of his dignity.

When the door banged open and allowed him to pass, Kai stood in the doorway and aimed his smoldering glare at three male teens huddled together around Tyson's camera. They looked up as soon as the door had banged and their faces were glowing with amusement, making Kai grind his teeth together in irritation. “Tyson,” he growled threateningly, clomping over to one of them.

“Wh-Whoa there!” Tyson somehow managed between chortles, backing away slowly with a ridiculous grin still on his face. “Wait! I'll delete it! I'll delete it!”

“You better delete it, or I will destroy that camera along with you.” Kai spoke darkly, fisting the front of Tyson's shirt.

“You washed your hand, right?” Tyson quipped, still grinning like a fool.

From the side, Kai heard the other two erupt into laughter; one of them pounding on the desk with a fist, each pound making the bowl of fruit on the table shift closer and closer to the edge. The apples shook with the oranges, and the bananas jumped alongside the pears. Kai spared a quick glance in their direction, taking note of the blond's reddening face and the raven haired young man now rubbing the bottom of his fist with a innocent smile. Kai wanted to kick the table into his face.

In front of him, Tyson dared to snicker. Kai turned on him again, eyes glinting murderously. “You will die,” he said promisingly, narrowing his eyes and roughing him against the wall.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Tyson brought his hands up in front of him, still holding onto his camera with his right, and his grin twisted away with fear. “Let's not be rash, okay?”

Kai pushed his fist into Tyson's chest, making sure that his knuckles were pressed painfully into his sternum. “Give me the camera,” he hissed slowly, quickly losing his patience. “Now, Tyson!” At his right, Kai heard more snickering, now directed at their suffering blue-haired friend.

“Aw, quit laughing already, will ya? It's not funny anymore!” Tyson scowled, shooting the pair a dirty look.

Rei cleared the laughter out of his throat. “Okay, okay. I won't laugh,” Rei promised, smiling instead, and was quickly joined by his blond companion.

“Give it to me,” Kai spat out impatiently, feeling his blood pressure rise.

“Fine,” Tyson said in defeat, rolling his eyes and throwing his hands up in the air dramatically. “But first...!” Without warning, Tyson used his free hand to slam a fist firmly into Kai's stomach.

Not expecting a physical retaliation, Kai dropped Tyson and doubled over slightly. His eyes widened with the realization that Tyson was getting away.

The look of absolute shock was so uncharacteristic and humorous that Max had to start laughing all over again. Run, Tyson!” Max managed to cry out, “Hurry, post it up on the BBA's forum before Kai kills you!”

Rei elbowed the blond. “Max, shut up!” he hissed, eyeing their former team captain warily. Kai's smoldering glare was now on them, and he looked torn between tearing their heads off and mauling Tyson. Rei cleared his throat and offered a smile. “Better go catch Tyson, Kai. You wouldn't want the world to find out what you do in the shower, now would you?”

At that, Kai chose to chase Tyson down. He was out of the kitchen and back on the second floor in less than five seconds.

Rei and Max sat together in the chorus of thundering footsteps above them. Somebody let out a terrified yelp—Tyson, they thought—and there was more violent banging that rattled the dishes in their cupboards. Then, there was a horrible, bloodcurdling scream before complete and utter silence bathed the house.

Max furrowed his brow in concern and hesitantly turned to Rei with a questioning look. “Do you think Kai really killed him this time?” he whispered, fear lacing his tone.

Rei didn't respond and only shushed him.

From above, soft footfalls padded across the expanse of the kitchen ceiling. A door creaked shut, and someone began humming Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture very, very softly.

“That's creepy,” Max said, slinking in his seat with a grimace. “He may as well be humming the funeral march...”

“Shh!” Rei elbowed Max again and shot him a look.

The two paused, then, waiting in the growing anticipation as a tense silence started to thicken around them. The kitchen door slowly creaked open, and Max jumped in his seat with a squeak. Rei tried to compose himself, but couldn't wipe off all the fear from his face. The door swung open all the way and the pair glued their eyes on Kai, who strolled in, fully dressed, with a satisfied look on his normally expressionless face as he crossed over to their table to grab an apple from the bowl of fruit. He almost looked radiant, Rei noted, and swallowed thickly, leaning back in his seat with trepidation dropping like a stone in his stomach.

Kai walked to the sink, turning the tap on and taking his time rinsing his fruit.

“Hey, Kai...” Max finally said, breaking the silence to greet their former captain in a shaky tone. “What's—”

Before he could even finish asking what was up, something flew past his left ear that made all the color drain from Rei's face. There was a heavy clunk as something hit the wall behind him, and Max could feel the smile on his face twitching and threatening to slide off. Ever so slowly, he turned his head.

There was a knife protruding from the wall behind them.

Max gaped openly, feeling his jaw unhinge.

The next sounds were smooth and rich, and came from Kai as he left the kitchen:

“You're next.”

Max's were glued to the knife. There was a frightened noise that came from his throat before he caught himself and wildly spun around. “We're gonna die!” he whispered fearfully. “We're gonna—” He stopped.

Rei wasn't there.

Max's gaze lowered to the seat, where a piece of paper was folded neatly in half. Something was written inside. Tentatively, Max reached out to take note and unfold it.

Out for lunch. Be back soon!, it read cheerfully.

Max crumpled it in his hand and threw it across the room. With an indignant huff, he leaned forward on the table and drummed his fingers on its surface. “I knew living together was a bad idea,” he grumbled, eyeing the bowl of fruit with hateful eyes.

I love writing Hilary because I feel she's such a versatile supportive character. If she's not in the next chapter, she'll definitely be in the one after.

Somebody's gotta take care of the boys ;P

I love it! It's really fun and a smooth read. :) Also, is this Beyblade roleplay still active? I'm totally interested!

Thanks for reading!

Unfortunately, the Beyblade RP community was closed two years ago. I've been looking around to see if I can squeeze my poor self in anywhere else, but I haven't been able to find one that was active yet :(

Aww darn. It almost makes me want to just go and create one, but I feel like Beyblade isn't really all that popular anymore, haha! Although I guess there's a fair share of people like us.

Thanks! And I share your craving! The fandom isn't as active as it was in the past, and I'm hoping for a miracle or something to revive it *crosses fingers*
